Southampton – Everton 3:0

Both teams put high importance on stability in build up play. Both teams had well-coordinated pressure on defense, though Southampton was on a higher level in terms of their pressing. Both teams used their forwards in a narrow and combinative manner, but there were certain differences that led to Southampton’s victory on the day.

Hull City – Swansea City 0:1

Hull City showed some potential to escape relegation in the EPL. Hull City played a big part in determining the rhythm of the match, while Swansea played well in defense. Swansea played a large amount of long passes while also displaying some spurts of great positioning, which led to their win.

Juventus – Olympiakos 3:2

Allegri tries out a new diamond system with Juventus with huge emphasis on diagonal movements. Olympiakos nearly steal points from the game with goals against the flow of play, but Allegri’s men managed to use their new and interesting system to come from behind and secure 3 points in the Champions League.

Manchester United – Chelsea 1:1

The Portuguese tactician meets his Dutch mentor. A battle of football giants. Jose Mourinho nearly took all 3 points against Van Gaal in Manchester after Didier Drogba scored his Premier League opener. Robin Van Persie managed to save his team a point with a last second goal off of a set piece.

Barcelona – Athletic Bilbao 2:0

Athletic Club looked to get a result away at the Camp Nou and Barcelona sought to continue its run as the only team in La Liga to have a 100% record. Barcelona celebrated the 300th National Day of Catalonia (September 11th) and wore the Senyera kit to commemorate the event.
