Defensive Protection
During own attacks, players always have to stand in short distances from one another in order to directly practicing an effective counterpressing after turnovers. Good spacing already influences the possession game against the possible loss of the ball and often avoids turnovers. In terms of defensive actions, a player, who pushes forward leaving his initial position to attack the ball carrier, must also be backed by another team-mate. There are basically two different approaches. First, defensive protection means the protection of team-mates near the ball. Second, a team creates appropriate staggered formations, so that first line of pressing is protected as well as the rest of the pitch behind the ball.
